We have a 310 JD hoe. We put a brand new clutch assembly, thinking the clutch was bad. It slipped a little when taking off on a uphill grade, after it gets going it is ok. Well, it still does it, the old clutch was good. We think it is in the shuttle, it is run by hydraulic. Has anyone else had this problem and how big a job is it to repair?Butch

OK first things first...Check the reverser clutch linkage that runs from clutch pedal to the reverser control valve. There are roll pins and groove pins in that rod. If there is any slop in these pins , that will affect the clutch pressure inside the reverser. Also try removing the floorboard around the clutch pedal so the pedal comes up a little farther. If this helps , adjust the linkage so the pedal stop just contacts the floorboard when in the fully up position. If you still have a problem , Put a guage into the reverser control valve test port. [pointed down on the rear control valve cover ]. Test pressure, should be approx. 135 lbs. Usually forward gets weak and reverse is good , indicating forward clutch leakage or wear-out. If thats the case , you will have to split it again and get into the front cover of reverser. There you will find a clutch assembly with sealing rings and manifold ring. Then take the clutch apart to check piston sealing rings..
