What would be the nomal amount of blow by on a used backhoe, the owner says it has always had the white smoke and burns no oil, the tractor starts and runs excellent however there is in my opinion too much white smoke coming from beneath the engine. I know this is a subjective question, but trying to learn as much as I can about this machine.

I ran a 450 loader (188 engine) for a bunch of years with blowby. Watch your oil level and keep an eye on the temp. Don't overdo it and you can get serious hours out of it before you have to break it down. I know a guy that dug lots of basements before his rebuild. When the work slowed he rebuilt it.

you bet what a deal.local construction paper had an attachment in it.went to look at it.it was laying on a tralier for years.only thing the levers were froze.also under the weeds was aftermarket brackets he threw in.all together $900.just as i thought the valve body was cracked.got one off the internet for $900.works ok.i can put any rops on it my problem is making the brackets for the back of the rops.dont want to weld on the fuel/oil tank.
