I am really trying to find out what this dozer is.
How can you tell if a JD450 has wet clutches?
I know on my 350 I can pull the top plate off and I can look in.
The serial number is 450C189087T and CH said it might be a late 450B, the machine has 450C stickers.
The engine clutch looks like a regular clutch, PP, and Throwout.
It has two levers on the left side in front of the battery box, HLR and Gear selector

I have a 450c, but the dealer here said the "c" in your serial number designates the type of blade setup on the crawler. In this case the c means it had a 6 way blade on it, and the serial number range identifies the series as a,b,c,g, etc. Someone else might have more insight on this. I bought mine with the engine blown for 4000, then spent another 4,000 on the new engine. Iam very happy with my machine.

I thank all of you for the help. I do only trust the serial number.
I don't understand why someone would put the wrong stickers on a piece of equipment. I have a 350 that has 2 layers on 350B stickers and now I found this 450B that has 450C stickers.
Why can't people just be proud of what they have and not try to confuse people.
This is a turboed engine.
Is it worth #3500 with the engine out on the ground?

Buyer beware !!.. That five dollar decal may raise the price significantly to the unknowing buyer.. Never trust an hour meter either.. As far as the price... might not be bad as long as youre relatively sure as to why the engine is out.. Engine problem ?? transmission problem ?? or both ??

They all have dry engine clutches. Just take the seat out, and look down at the tops of the steering-clutch housings. If each one has a rectangular cover held on by four small bolts (3/8" I think), than it has dry clutches. If each side has a cover with an aluminum bung-plug in it - like a common 55 gallon drum usually has, then it has wet clutches.

Are you sure about the s/n ?? i think it should be JD450BC189087 .. which would make it a 450B ... started its life in Arkansas

Why don't you trust the serial number??? Is it Turbo Charged?? I believeall Cs are and only late Bs. Check to see if there is oil in the steering clutch housing. But i still think it is a B as said before C start at 191829
