I have just bought a piece of property that has an old Chalmers crawler on it. The prior owner says that it worked up to about a year ago. Does anyone know much about this machine and any info on it. I just dont know anything about it, and that is all I can make out on the unit. I see that it says 6G on the back and that it is an Allis Chalmers and that it. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks!

I know you said that you are not a gearhead but if you cannot tell if it is a gas or diesel engine just by looking at it I think that you should quickly become good friends with a neighbor that is a gearhead that can give you some advice and operating instructions if the machine is running. A dozer is not simple machines to operate and look after if you have no experience.

OH I know! I have a local fella coming out to get it running for me now. I am gonna have him give me some tips on running the thing. I wouldnt even bother with it but I got the thing free. I just basically need it to cut trails in and push some deadfall out of the way. All of this just so I can get my food plots planted in the springtime. I have run plenty of equipment actually, but when it comes to working on any of it I am pretty much no help. In short I know just enough to be dangerous and get the job done. There isnt really anything else that I am gonna need it for. Since it was free I cant get myself to get rid of it. What do you think it would be worth if I(we) get it running again?

Doug

Weighs around 13000 lbs. not counting attachments such as a dozer blade assembly. Buda 344 cube engine that puts out 60 PTO horsepower. Parts are still available from AGCO or the Buda Engine Company in Lousiana. HD6G is a six roller machine.

do you think that it would be very expensive to get this thing going if the engine is not locked up? and to keep it mantained?

Depends on your mechancial expertise and how good a scrounger you are. Parts, used or new are getting very expensive, and so are labor rates.

what does it have for horsepower and would it be diesel or gas? I really am not a gear head, I just dont know anything about crawlers. I just know that i could really use it to plant my food plots in the spring.

These machines were only diesel also use 24 volt starting system. Weight for the HD-6G should be around 16,000 pounds. Crawler/loaders are very versatile machines and this one is a very good size; easily moved (no oversize permits) and big enough to do work. If you can get it running, it is worth a fair piece of change.
