Greetings- I posted just a couple days ago regarding my hard to start dozer. Thanks to all for your input. I did not get a chance to do any of the recommended suggestions as I was working with it today. I was using it to clean out a pond and it was running great. No overheating, no smoke, then it started to run a bit erratic(missing). I stopped to find a slight fuel leak at the filter to pump line, clamped it and got back on. It seemed to run as good as before, then without warning died. No smoke, no noise, just like it ran out of fuel. I drained some off of filters to see if it had some water in it but found none. I cranked it and it did not start, sounded dry with no smoke coming from exhaust at all. Not that it should smoke but usually there is some slight white or grey/black smoke while cranking over. I recently purchased this unit used. When I replaced the fuel filters they were rusted out. Yep I said rusted out- I had to rip off with pliers. Soo-thought I would buzz you all for some thoughts on how to proceed. Simple clogged line or such? Pump quit? how do you know? Any input appreciated-And yes it has fuel in the tank!

Going by your description of events, if it really quit all-at-once, and didn't sputter, skip, and loose power first, it's quite likely the injection pump seized and the drive-shaft sheared in two. It is designed to break when there is pump trouble - acts as sort of a fuse. If you need to check, take the little inspection window off the side of the pump (held on by two screws), and crank the engine - and look for movement inside the window. If nothing is moving, it's seized.

If filters were that bad I would check inside of tank for chunks of rust and also small fine rust sediment in systym. Blow back thru fuel line into tank and see if fuel flow improves. I also like to put magnets on underside of fuel tank to attract rust so it stays away from fuel outlet and occasinally fish rust out of tank with a magnet on a stick. I am temped to put a magnet in a fuel tank and leave it there but I think it may break down after a while.
