I am having trouble with my shuttle reverser on my 350B and sometimes I have to double clutch it to get the shuttle to work in reverse. Most of these machines have a reverse in the transmission I presume for emergencies but this one doesn"t have a slot in the upper left gate where reverse is supposed to be. Does anyone know the gears are really there and I could cut a slot in the gate to shift into reverse in case of complete shuttle failure or do I have to get my IH TD24 out to pull it backward?
I think the 350C models didn"t have any reverse gear but this is a B model. I presume I"ll have to take the top off the tranny to see it it"s in there.

On the "C" models, the reverse gear was left out of the transmission, mainly because the hydraulic reverser was no longer an option - it came as standard equipment. I have no idea why you be doesn't have it - so I also have no idea what you'll find if you pull the trans. cover off. It's kind of shame Deere cheapened the later models by taking out reverse - since gear reverse is stronger than running with the hydraulic reverse - it's the weak point of the reverser. You might get some added use with a weak reverser by turning up the rate of shift. Also, make sure there isn't dirt preventing the clutch-pedal from returning fully. Very often dirt gets stuck behind the contol-lever-arm on the reverser control valve and/or the return spring gets weak.

Now I'm really cornfused! in reply to jdemaris, 02-18-2006 20:21:11
I read where the 350C had no reverse due to the shuttle being on all of them but now there's a pix of a C on ebay and it clearly shows a upper left slot in the gate. Then there's another one that's a 350B on ebay with a backhoe that has NO gate and is like mine. I just got a manual on the B and it says it has a reverse gear! They must have all been custom built. I'm going to take the gate loose when it warms up to freezing here and find out the hard way.
