Will I have to split the tractor in order to get to the transmission pump on an 1980 310A? Not sure if the pump is bad yet but I have zero pressure at the main pump inlet and same at the clutch control valve at 2000rpm. Hydraulics work fine until the machine gets really warmed up and then loader response is really slow. Return filter is clean. Main pump pressure seems to be ok. Transmission seems to work normal. JD dealer put in a new engine, rebuilt the reverser and installed a repaired main pump about 100 hours ago. Any advice would be appreciated.

Check reverser oil pressure at the reverser control valve.[ bottom plug on rear valve cover]
Oil pressure should be 135 lbs. Read pressure at half throttle with gear trans in neutral or park..Reverser in forward.. See if oil pressure fluxuates widely from idle to wide open throttle..A little fluxuation is normal [ 10 - 30 lbs ] If wide fluxuation , the filter relief valve is probably stuck partially open , dumping oil back to sump. This valve is accessible from the side of trans case. Remove vertical filter , you will see a small portion of this valve if you look up into the filter cavity. There is a plug on the side of trans case. You can pry the relief valve out of its bore from underneath. Look very closely at the valve. It doesn't take much at all to keep the valve off it's seat. Usually just a minute piece of crap will cause the valve to stick partially open...
