The plates can be taken off under each side of the main frame and the steering clutch brake pads can be removed/replaced without tearing anything else apart. One thing that does happen with these clutches is that rust etc gets in between the friction discs and won't let them separate when the steering lever is pulled-then you can stand on the steering brake all you want but the cluth won't disengage. With a chain hoist and a few hours labor you can have the cluthes out--usually only requiring a good clean-up.Don't try to take the clutch apart in the cat-take it out as a unit or it will blow apart if unbolted at the side plate.

The plates DWF mentioned along with the small round plates on the very back of the rear housing will let you visibly inspect the linings. You might be lucky and just need to adjust the brakes. If you need to reline, the fuel tank, battery, and top cover of the rear housing have to come off, and the fenders as well. My experience with my TD-6 is work a day, wait 2 weeks for parts, work a day, wait..... So I no longer use the word "fast" in the same sentence as "TD-6". But I hope your experience is better!

Larry

IT's been a long time since I was around these machines, but I'll try to help.
On the back underside of the main frame on each side is a plate held on with several bolts (6 or 8). Take the plate off and the brake shoe is there. Sometimes a pin that holds the parts of the shoes together comes out, I think it had a cotter key. You have to reach way up in there to find out.
Good luck! DWF
