Can the oil run into the transmission from the engine on a cat D7 Dozer.
Are there filters to be checked??

Looklng back at this post this AM I was thinking daily use when I posted last night but that is a lot oil hourly. As the others have said most likely stopped up suction screen in the bottom of trans causing it to pull oil from engine into trans pump by the seal. Good Luck! One other thing you should check is the magnetic strainer it's right under the trans pump.

You might check the engine breather tube and screen as it might be stopped up 'pushing oil by the rear main seal. Some of the 7E's did have the clutch and trans run the same oil although I thought it was on the later s/n tractors. I have operated 2 7E's in the 2000 s/n they both had the clutch by it self. The later 5000s/n tractor the clutch and trans was oiled as one. Good Luck on an easy fix.

yes it is a high winch model,
The enigine is using about 5 leters of oil per day
with out showing much sign of leakage or smoke,
while the gear box is over ful with oil. Is it possible the oil is getting from the engine to the gear box somehow?

What kind of muck John? Wasn't black flakey stuff was it? Might be brake bands coming apart, they deteriorate from age aswell as wear. If it clogges up again pull the clutches and reline the bands.

If the trans and bevel gear are getting more oil and the engine is going down the trans and bevelgear oil should be black by now. That confirms your problem. On a powershift I would look at the crank seal but I don't think the clutch is common with the trans on a direct drive so maybe the steering pump is picking it up at the shaft seal. Check for black oil in the clutch too and come on back.
