There is a 655 Allis Chalmers crawler-loader-backhoe on Ebay for sale (pretty high asking price). Anyway, a 655 is basically the same machine as an HD4. It's originally came with a 200 cubic inch engine, usually referred to as a 2200 engine or a 433 engine. Rated at 59 horsepower. The guy has it advertised as having over 90 horsepower. So, I asked him about it, and he says he thinks it's been repowered with a 437i Allis Chalmers engine. What the heck is that? I asked him, and he hasn't replied. To my knowledge, the most powerful version of the AC engine was when it was used in the 6080 ag. tractor, and in that a turbocharger and intercooler were added for a horsepower output of 83 horsepower. I asked the person if this thing has a turbo, and still no reply. Even if it did, it wouldn't have 92 horsepower with the 200 c.i. engine, would it? It's at: Link

I've seen this one for sale for quite a while now, it is a high asking price. If it really has a 200 ci engine in it I would think it unlikely to have 90 hp. The guy I bought by crawler from told me my six cylinder loader had 90 hp. Later, once I got edumacated on the IH 282 diesel I learned it actually put out 75 hp for the non-turbo version, and oddly enough 71 hp for the turbo version. Now I have a perkins powered tlb with a turbo ("compensated" as they call it) 236 cu/in engine and I believe it has about 75-80 hp. So an old school mechanically injected, non-electronically controlled 200 cu/in diesel putting out 90hp sounds high to me, even with turbo.

Maybe "she's got 90 hp" is some kind of form letter sales pitch for crawlers?
