I am looking at buying a Cat D9 dozer. It is a pony start from the operator's seat. I don't know the year model, but it has a cable blade and a powershift tranny. The owner thinks it is a 1964 or 1966 model. It comes with the blade, cutter blade & brush rake blade. The pads are pretty worn, but the rollers, pins and sprockets are ok. It has sat for about 5 years, but the owner will have it running when I go to see it. If the machine works ok and the engine runs ok, what would it be worth? Also, can anybody provide any feedback on this type of D9 dozer? I am going to use it to dig a pond and clear existing fence rows on about 160 acres. I know this dozer is way to big, but for the right price, it may be my best way out Thanks, Bobby

Thanks for the feedback. From where it is located, it would be only a 30 mile trip to my dad"s farm where I will work it. bloyd

For a later model from the early 70's, like a 9G, that still has a pony start I've seen them anywhere from the $35,000 range on up depending on condition. If it's been converted to direct start then ecpect to pay a little more for it up than one with a pony. I've got a customer that recently purchased an older 9 from the late 50's that he gave $3000 for. It had maybe 50% undercarriage and had been setting for quite a few years but was running when he got it. He ran it one day and had to pull the clutch because a bearing had stuck and spun. He found it when he shut it down for lunch and it ha everything locked down and wouldn't spin over to restart when he went back to it later that afternoon. Just remember if the price sounds too good to be true it probably is.... For the machine your looking at with the extra attachments I'd say, for around here, if you are getting it for less than say $20,000 and it's in good shape then your getting a pretty good deal. If it's not in all that good of shape and their just trying to unload it then it'll cost you more to get it moved or cut up for scrap than it's worth. Just make sure their selling it to you and not "unloading it on you" and you'll come out OK.

Ask over on the ACMOC to get an idea of price. You will likely get it for very little more than a D6 as the buyers are fewer for an old machine that big. They are a good machine but expensive if anything big needs repair. You may find it easier to move around by backing up than driving forward in close quarters. You can see over the fuel tank but it's hard to see much close in front because of that big rad.
