I am trying to decide between these two dozers. They both appear to be in similar good condition. Any thoughts on how they stack up against each other in use? Would parts for the JD be easier to find? Any "gotcha" items I should be looking for on either? JD450C - 90% undercarriage, new tracks & engine, turbo, with wench $18,500 International TD8E - new tracks, seals, a lot of recent work, it started easy and runs well, looks well cared for - $20,000 Any thoughts welcome. Thanks,

I once heard that a rule of thumb for IH weight is to take the model#, subtract one, and you have the tonnage. This would put the TD8 at about 14,000 lbs. Sounds about right I guess.

I've worked on both machines. TD8 did final drive seals and track adjuster seals but due to damage from work enviroment not design. Good machine very nice for fine work with decell pedal. JD 450 I've done many transmission jobs. They seem to lend themselves well to sloppy operators slamming from forward to reverse at full throttle. Chuck

Thanks for the reply. What factors push you toward the JD450C?

The one i ran had a winch and 6 way we used it in the oil fields here back in 77 and the I H dealer brought out a brand new TD 8E on demo set up the same way and the 450 would out push out pull and was faster they also tryed to sell me a TD 15 to replace the 750 here again the Deere out did the I H , my be the 450 that we had was unusal oh and a other thing i did not care for the way the seat was on the I H after 15-16 hours in the saddel my back hurt but did not on the deer. IT would cut the lease roads removeing top soil in 2nd hig or third low with no problem of lack of power where the TD 8 had one gear for pushen and that was 1st not second it would not push in second.

I had a 450C w/winch. Good machine! Now have a TD8E.Also Good machine and a lot stronger than the 450. Haven't had any problem with parts. Local Komatsu dealer has been able to supply anything I needed. But, I sure do miss having that winch!!! Handy as a pocket on a shirt!!!
P.S.
Stay on top of routine servicing and track tension.

Thanks for the reply. I am leaning toward the TD8E right now, though a winch would be nice to have. Since you have one, do you happen to know what the approximate transport weight is for the TD8E?

I own a TD-8E. It weighs in @ 17,250 lbs according to state scale. It is a great running machine, has good power and very fuel efficient. With proper maintenance, it will last a long time.
