Was looking through the local salvage yard. Came across an old crane. Looked inside, has complete Detroit 6-71. Salvage yard says going to cut up for scrap, but will consider offer on engine. Says diesel runs strong and crane was driven to back of salvage yard. Any ideas of what engine is worth?? Information appreciated.

Really depends on who wants it, if you have a use for it, get it. They are not worth much to me as i have 2 runners and one for parts and nothing that uses them at the moment. They were a good engine in their day, just have the ussual detroit dissadvantages- oil leaks, and who can forget that scream. There are a lot of old trucks that use them around yet so it has to be worth something to someone. They were also used in a few euclid/terex and other makes of equipment. What kind of crane is it?
