I have a case 350 that I'm looking to sell. I have concern that there is a problem with the brakes, and I want to tell the people calling about the machine what the true condition of the machine is, but I don't want to say something is "wrong" when it really isn't and then cost me money on the sale. so, here's the question (finally)...
When the machine is first run it turns great, will turn left/right in forward and reverse without any trouble. I don't try to "pivot turn" cause I was told that is bad for a 350, but turn very tight. So, I used the machine for about 4 hours on saturday, and by the time I was done the machine really wasn't turning as well. I thought something was wrong, but then yesterday I started the machine up and drove it and once again it turned wonderfully. Do the brake bands need adjusted? Maybe after serveral hours of use they heat up, expand, and become loose? any help would be appreciated. sorry, I'm so long winded on the keyboard... this is a great site as a resource. wish I would have found it earlier!

There is a inside adjustment that gets ignored all the time It is important as if not keep up will not get full use of the brake band and wear just the ends out. You need to pull rear cover lousen outside adjusters, tight inside until you have 1/4 free play at lever next to housing then adjust outside until 1/8 inch travel. Make sure when you refill your fluids that you use ONLY GL-1 Gear ONLY. Very Important If you have any questions or need any parts email me for a link to my site

would this be the cause of the brakes "fading" after the machine has been run for a while? I have a parts manual, to you think that will that show me all the adjustment points you mentioned? Thanks for the help!

When you pull the rear cover off you will see the adjustment, Wrong oil could cause problems when brakes are hot along with adjustment, also could be time to replace brakes!! Any questions you can email me

CH, I just got off the phone with my local case dealer. I've called everywhere looking for GL-1 oil and can't find it. now my local case dealer said it is OK to use the GL-5 oils...

Your Case Dealer is an Idiot !! Do you have a NAPA near you or a Tractor Supply?? If not on the shelf they should be able to get it. I get it at my local independent auto parts store also My Wal Mart has it!!

Finally found the right oil. local Case dealer (groff tractor) would not order for me, and really didn't want to talk/deal with me at all. dealers in ohio had it in stock but 4 hour drive to get it. found a local shell lubricants dealer who had the right viscosity and GL-1 in stock. thanks for the help.

called NAPA, AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, Carquest, Tractor Supply, WalMart, a Case-IH dealer, a Kubota dealer, a New-Holland dealer, and my local Case Construction equipment dealer. none have it in stock. I"m going to call the Case dealer tomorrow and ask him to order me a 5 gallon pail. why do you have to use the GL-1? Is is due to the additives hurting components, or will the GL-5 not allow the brake bands to build friction against the drums-thus no steering? Thanks for you help. I want to open up the differential and look at the bands, but not until I have the oil on hand...

Groff tractor has now gone out of their way to help me with this issue. I will be happy to deal with them again for all my parts and service.
