The boys moved the hoe back in Feb. about 10 feet and now i see a puddle of black oil under it. There was some frozen mud around the track drive motor. The oil appears to have soaked the mud about half way up on the inside of the track motor. The spot on the ground is about 10" in diameter. My question is do you think it is from the motor or is it the feed line to the motor? Thanks. Kevin

Hi Kevin,

It is a good idea to check the final drive oil level. I try to do it in the spring and fall, but at least once / year. A burned out final drive is not somthing you want to mess with. The good news that very seldom have I heard of a Hitachi final drive going. The E70B uses the Hy-Dash final drive, as does the PC 60 and a few others. We had to replace one a few years ago $13000.00 + change. The price may have come down now.

Hopefully it's just the hydrolic lines.
Grant

probably the feed line. My Cat E70B just did the same thing only worse. Dirt packed in around the lines for years ate thru. We will cut the line above the bad part & put a compression fitting on, since it isn't rusted above where the dirt laid.

How did you make your compression fitting or where did you buy it?

Bot it at local shop that makes up hydrualic lines & has the metric sizes & fittings. NAPA store can usually point you to who does it locally.
