It a 350 and 450 mixed together in reply to Gary Blackwell., 03-22-2006 04:55:56
I was working for a Deere dealer when they came out - around 89 or 90. When Deere replaced the 350D with the 400G,it helped created a nation-wide shortage of lightweight US made crawlers. Seems all the companies dropped their small crawlers at the same time. This is why Deere offered a program to "buy back" old 350s nad 450s, rebuild them, put new serial numbers on them, and resell them. Called the "Certified Relife Program." We had several in our rental fleet, and I worked on a few - but no major tear-downs. We closed the business before we had any 400s wear out. The 400 - "G" was, in a way, a beefed up 350D but heavier - kind of a cross between a 350 and a 450. I can remember a few of the changes from the 350, but I'm sure there are more. It had a 239 cube four-cylinder engine, whereas the 350D had a Saran, France built three-cylinder engine - 179 cubic inches I think. 400G has the HL-R powershift trans from the 450 series, whereas the 350D has a forward-reverse reverser. 400G also had sealed tracks, long-track option, etc. Standard model weighs around 12,000 lbs. Deere did not made the 400G very long and it was dropped in 93.
