Hi,I have a 1985 310B John Deere backhoe.I am having trouble with the brakes, they go to the floor with no brakes if pressed slowly,If I pump them quickly a few times then it has about half a pedal with decent brakes. Was wondering if anyone might know where the problem lies? could it be the master cylinder leaking by or would it be in the brake discs in the rear housing.Seems to be worse when the fluid is warmer. When you pump them up and get pedal they seem to hold pressure as long as you hold them,so I am thinking it isn"t a packing leaking by in the rear.If anyone has had any experience with this problem I would like to hear from you. Thanks,Rick

To eliminate a brake valve problem , remove the brake lines from the axle housings. Install a JIC plug into the lines , and bleed the lines at the plugs. If you still have poor pedal , the brake valve will have to be repaired...This will eliminate any second guessing. If the brake valve holds and doesn't go down , you will need to remove the axle housings and repair a piston seal problem...

You may notice that there are adjustment bolts under the pedals. These "protect" the inlet valves in the brake valve. These inlet valves are a "T" shape, like a disc with a stem on it. They are very fragile, if the bolts are out of adjustment, the valves can be slightly bent, and cause the problem that you describe.

sounds like a classic case of fluid leaking past the piston seal internally in the master cyl.

Have you bled the brakes? There is a bleeder fitting on top of the axle housing on each side of the tractor.
