Looking at replacing a small gas engine on conveyor belt. Any one know what the advantage is on these small diesel engines air cooled compared to the gas engine of same engine torque?
Conveyor belt not used that offen so I am wondering if its financially feasible to go with a diesel engine.

In addition to what RAB already stated - diesel fuel weighs more than gasoline and has more BTUs per gallon. So, assuming you're using off-road fuel, you get more energy for your dollar. Also, a diesel engine is not as well suited for wide RPM ranges when being worked, but if it is sized for the job it will be doing, and run at the proper speed, and worked at a fairly constant load, it will be much cheaper to run than its gasoline counterpart. Just check engine specs. before you buy - in some applications - a gas engine of the same cubic inch displacement as a diesel will have more horsepower and more torque - it depends much on bore versus stroke and what it was built for. Most industrial application diesels are long stroke as compared to bore, and therefore high-torque. But, not always.

Fuel cost. No electrical ignition sytem to give trouble. Diesels typically have more torque than an equivalent power with gas engine. You can not get by with less than the minimum HP.
Comes down to economics of purchase and running costs.
