Was over at a good friends place yesterday, rain cancelled everything else, his 1010 is giving him some trouble, no reverser on this one, it does not want to move unless at a real low idle, I'm thinking must be in the clutch drive-train, I should have looked in his manual, not familiar with JD's, I could not even find where the fill cap was on the final drive, LOL. Am wondering where to start looking, he did a nice job rebuilding the motor, it runs good, will need some U/C work soon, in the dark as to what is causing this.

1010 crawler without a reverser has a pretty simple system. It has a conventional dry engine clutch disk and pressure plate bolted to the flywheel, and the steering clutches are multiple dry disks and steel separaters with a standard, three-finger pressure plate on each side. Seems you need to determine if its the engine clutch or the steering clutches slipping. If the crawler has a PTO or winch drive stub, engage it, and then run the crawler and see if it keeps turning when the machine stops. If it keeps turning, then the engine clutch is working. If it's been sitting for a long time, the steering clutch fiber disks might be swelled up from moisture. When that happens, you loose all the free-play in the steering-levers, and the steering clutches stay dis-engaged. So . . . check for free-play.

Did he have the motor out when he rebuilt it?? How long has it been sitting?? There so many reasons but simplest may be the clutch. Did he run this machine before he rebuilt it? Anyways if you need parts i have them and i'm in NY email me for my link

This one has been in use, since he's owned it 5 years now, I think he did an in-frame about 3 years ago, assuming there are alignment issues like with Cat's, which I'm much more familiar with, when taking the motor out and re-installing. It was running prior to this, not sure how it was performing, seems like something slipping. I found some loose bolts needing to be tightened on the final drive housing, I wanted to check the compartment for metal, but could not see any access to it. I'll have to go back and fool with it and see what he's talking about, look listen and feel etc. He built his home 6 years ago, and it's been used in his spare time for landscaping and grading, nothing really abusive, nice natural gravel area, they used to mine gravel all around there. Will do on the link , thanks !
