I've checked out the info here and I tested out my crawler this weekend. This is what I found. When engaged in first gear, the crawler moves forward. Pull the right steering level, the entire crawler stops, the left side will not move. The steering clutch drum beneath me is still moving. pull back the left lever, drum still moves, crawler does not move. Put the crawler in reverse. Pull back right lever, crawler 'hitches' on the left, but will not move. Drum is turning. Do i have a bad clutch, bad final drive, both? Thanks!

Since the drum is after the clutch, in the power flow, something is a miss in the final drive. You could remove the pinion shaft bearing cover and check to see if the pinion shaft is turning with the drum. If the pinion is not turning, then the pinion shaft is broken or stripped the key/keyway. If the pinion is turning, then the problem is futher down. The pinion gear could be stripped, bull gear may have stripped it's hub, broken bull gear shaft, etc. Good Luck.

Assuming we're talking about the same thing - the steering-clutch drum bolts to the input shaft of the final drive. So, if there is any time when that drum is turning, and the sprocket and track is not - something is amiss in the final-drive. That is, unless the bolts are gone. I've only got HD4s and HD6s, but I assume the HD7 is designed the same. The steering clutches attach the drum to the splined shaft that connects to the ring& pinion - which is driven by the transmission. So, if the clutches were slipping, the drum would not be moving.
