I have I believe to be an old JD model 95 backhoe attachment from a crawler/dozer. I have mounted it on my MF 204 tractor with not much trouble. The problem is with the closed center directional valve. Can this be converted to an open center type? It is a sectional valve, end plate is a blank blockoff with the o ring grooves, other end is in through center and out through top and bottom work ports. All the spool sections are the same see through center and work ports. I can barely make out the name Cess__(?) Made in USA on the side, Cessna? I am getting #30200 on all of the sections with a different sub number on all, end- 30200-105c, in/out- 30200-1020. I have access to weld/fab/machining, any thoughts?

I don't think that during that vintage of hoe that Deere was using closed center hydraulics on the crawlers. Lavoy

95 hoes were used on Deere 400 wheel tractors with closed-center hydraulics.

Hadn't thought of the wheel tractors other than the Mannheim's, and I was thinking that they were still open center as well.

I was just working on a 400 with a 95 hoe. It has closed-center hydraulics and a 2.4 cubic inch, eight piston pump. The 300s are set up the same but might have smaller hoes.

Maybe I stand to be corrected, but I think the only hydraulic control valves that Deere used, that could be converted, had a large port for a conversion plug. You stuck in either an open-center plug or a closed-center plug. I don't think Deere started using them until the mid-80s. Take an older hoe, like a 95 - maybe off a JD 400 or something close - it probably has a Cessna or Gresen valve. To my knowledge, they are not convertible. If fact, the spools were never available by themselves - not even just for repair - only complete sections with the spools installed. Now, if you're wondering if you could do some machining - like grinding a slot on the spools so they passed oil when in neutral positon?? Can't say I've ever looked that close or tried. Seems you'd be way ahead of the game to buy a used control valve off a hoe from a 350 or 450 crawler with open-center hydraulics.
