I was attempting to check the oil in the ilder and could not get the allen head plug out. We rounded out the hole for the allen wrench with an impact driver. I was hoping someone wiser than myself would be able to suggest a way to get this plug out. Thankyou for your help. J. Kirsch NY

Back in the 70's when servicing new machines, part of the new machine service included checking roller/idler oil levels.. I can remember drilling many a plug just to check to see if some rummie at the factory put oil in them....

I don't know why anybody would use a impact gun on an Allen drive - it's asking for trouble. Those plugs often would not even come out on new equipment without heat. As I recall, they began use on the Deere "C" series. If it's not stripped real bad, try hammering in a metric sized Allen wrench that is slightly larger and use heat besides. Otherwise, drill it out and use an easy-out - again with heat - or weld a small bolt to the plug and take it out that way.
