My dad's TD 18 requires much effort to steer and seems weaker than when we first purchased it. Can steering and drive clutch be adjusted and is this something that will require a shop manual?

What series is your 18? The later models had hydraulic assist for the steering. The adjustment process is a little different than earlier models. Are you close to the Homochitto River? (I'm in Pike Co.)

Not sure of the model but would be surprised if equiped with hyd. assist. I'm in Amite Co. You know anyone interested in purchasing this crawler?

I don't know of anyone looking for an 18 close by, they aren't real popular in this area. I can get you a copy of the steering clutch adjustment procedure from my manual. (I have two TD18-182's). I would like to look at yours one day. Give me a call @ 783-6744 Monday (you may have to leave a message) and I'll get the info together.

A owner's manual should tell you all you need to know about adjusting stuff on the TD-18.

what is weak? describe how the tractor is weaker. If you think the engine is giving out less HP, then consider a tune up for the motor.

Check that air cleaner too! Loss of engine power is often times is caused by poor air cleaner maintenace! If it has not been looked at for years, take the whole thing off and wash it out.

Why do you think the main clutch need adjustment? is it constantly slipping? Adjusting the main clutch is easy. Pop the floor panel off, remove the cover on the cluch and reach for a pin somwhere on the clutch. turn the entire clutch plate until the clutch has a distinct snap to it when enguaging.

I cannot tell you right off the bat how to adjust the steering clutches. But I think you have to get under the seat for that.

How hard is it to steer? I have a D7 17a that the steering clutches are so out of adustment, it makes a deep grumbling sound when you disenguage it. It is normal to have to step on the brake to steer after disengaging, but to have to ride on the brake is another
