Hi
I have a 410 backhoe, The hydraulics are very slow. The front shovel is really slow and shudders as it is being raised. The backhoe still works but, it is not as quick as it useded to be. The steering is also very heavy. The machine was working perfectly up until 2 days ago. I think that the problem could be caused by the pressure relief valve ! Anyone know what the problem could be and how the pressure relief valve could be adjusted??

To eliminate problems; Put a guage into reverser control valve [ back cover, bottom plug ]. This is the reverser oil pressure. It should read approx 135 lbs just above idle speed. Run your throttle from wide open throttle to idle , with gearshift in park . watch guage ,shift the reverser from forward to reverse. Pressure should be relativley consistant , without big change in pressure reading.. If there is a big difference in pressure reading , The filter relief is probably sticking partially open.. When this happens , oil is being dumped back to sump instead of being routed to the hydraulic pump..

Hello Roy

Thanks for your quick response. I have no pressure gauge for checkig the pressure, but I checked the filter relief valves, and checked the state of the filters. Everything seems to be ok there was no dirt clogging either of the filter relief valves, but the machine still will not work. The back shovel still works extreemly slowl, the steering is still heavy and the front shovel practically dose not move, but the machine will drive. Someone I know that had one of these machines, said that it could be the hydraulic pump, that there are springs there that do break. Could this be the problem, because the machine was working perfectly the day before the problem started. Any further hints?

Regards Michael

Before attempting to adjust the pressure relief valve, check the basics.Fluid full and the correct type, hydraulic filters and cross screen clean. While it may be the relief valve it could also be an internal leak, stuck bypass valve on the filter housing or trans case, bent or partially collapsed line feeding the main hyd. pump.
