We're assuming you have the IHC A style injector pump, if not, please say so!

If you are convinced that fuel delivery to the #3 injector is low, I would suggest:

1. Remove the #3 injector line and make certain it is clear
2. Remove the bleeder screw at the injector and make sure nothing is blocking the orifice to the bleeder screw.
3. Check to see if the #3 distributor valve is sticking (this requires removing the pump).
4. Check to see if the cam for the #3 distributor valve is flat (very unlikely).

You do not have check valves for each injector on this style pump.

If you have any doubts about the fuel delivery, you might want to measure the delivery amount from #3 for a specific time period while cranking the engine, then repeat for one of the other injectors and compare the actual volume.

Did this happen suddenly, gradually, after some work was performed??

Larry

Where did you come up with this low pressure on #3 cylinder theory. I am guessing you have the IH built pump and not the rare Bosch that is seen once in a great while. The same plunger develops pressure for all 4 cylinders if you have the IH or Bosch pump. If you take the exhaust manifold off do you see any smoke out of cylinder 3 and if so what color is it? Your turn. J.

Hi it is a IH pump,no smoke on #3. when i bleed #3 very little fuel comes out of it,the other ones have a lot more fuel coming out.valves have ben ground.the machine was never work hard,it had a big boom on it to lay pipe.the boom weighed 6800lbs. nothing is wore out.does the pump have a check vavle for each injector.thank you, steve

Have you switched #3 injector with another one and then started it? Do you have a pump model. I also have an IH pump book but it is packed away probably untill fall. It is farming season in a couple of days. J.

The injection pump on the TD9 is a very simple pump compared to the modern injection pumps of today. However, an injection pump is still a part that needs a qualified technician or experienced tech. I do not know what area you are from but, you probably need to remove the pump and have it run on a pump stand to see what is wrong with the pump. You may have a weak pressure pump, or be leaking by in the plunger area of the pump. Either way, the only way to get the fuel set properly, and guarantee equal fuel distribution is to have it ran on a stand and checked by a qualified tech. BigJ
