I am looking for some help on a problem that I have on the Duetz engine in this machine. To give you some history the head gasket was replaced due to excessive engine smoking and oil consumption. The problem was still there and the next thing was to have the injectors cleaned and tested and the turbo charger was resealed and rebearinged. The engine started right up and there was no signs of smoke. The machine was put back to work and with in a few days it was back to using oil and hard starting. When it is fired up it doesn't want to stay running almost like it is out of fuel, squezing the bulb on the fuel line does not seem to make any difference. After talking to the Bobcat dealers service department and explaining to them all the symptoms the engine had it was decided to have the engine rebuilt. New pistons and rings were installed along with new bearings and the valves and seats were ground. After the engine was installed it fired right up and machine was put back to work. A few days later operator complained of hard starting so a one way check valve was installed in the fuel line just before the lift pump. At this time the operator was complaing of excessive oil consumption again. After talking to one of the Duetz dealers mechanics he informed me that these engines take a long time for the rings to seat, due to the fact that you cannot really load the engine down in this application, and that the hard starting problem could be due to bad fuel and to install some diesel fuel conditioner. This was done but no change also at this time it was found that the diesel fuel was very black so it was drained and new fuel installed. At this time I have pulled the engine again and have taken it to a shop who is going to put it on their dyno to see if they can get the rings to seat. I have also heard that this is a common complaint with this engine. Looking for any input from someone who might have some idea as to what I am missing. Thanks
