Dynahoe 190 missing Umph!

I just bought a 1979 Dynahoe 190 2WD and although I drove it and operated it briefly before I made the deal I got it home to find it to hardly be able to make it up a hill, haul a load or dig into a pile of ground. The 3-53 diesel sounds okay and seems to rev up but I have no power at all. I am thinking it may be a transmission problem but not sure. The 75+ year old previous owner said he never had a problem with it - and also it set a few years. Could something have gunked up? Is the tranny shot? One person suggested a torque converter needed checked for fluids and or changed. Any suggestions?

Also would like to get a manual on it.

I have a 1972 Dynahoe 160. It had the same problem, symptoms, and response from the previous owner.
I searched around to all the big equipment shops for someone to work on it, they all called it a Dinosaur and couldn't help, until I got to the Case Dealer. They had a mechanic that didn't know if he could do the job, but was at least willing to try. $4,000 later, a NEW Torque Converter aprox $1,100, just for that, he showed the old torque converter to me, it had a few broken fins banging around inside, probably why it couln't build up any pressure. The rest of the cost was some brake work new master cylenders etc. Once the New Converter was in the hoe can go just about anywhere on my property; it struggles up fairly steep hills but gets up them just the same, before I dragged it around using the hoe, because it could barely move on even ground.
Now the darn thing runs at high RPM's haven't quite figured out why yet. It is very annoying.

That happened to my loader once. The torque converter was practically empty. I filled it up and I was good to go. Maybe yours is the same way??? I also make a note when I buy "new-to-me" equipment to change ALL fluids AND ALL filters. Try that and run it again, if that doesn't help one of the more experienced lads here oughta be able to help you. With being said I could see it being a torque converter issue if the motor runs good but the machine won't hardly move. On the other hand if the hydraulics aren't operating up to snuff that would mean either a bad pump or a gunked up valve somewhere because usually the pumps run off the motor somewhere so in theory, if the motor is running well than the hydraulic pump should be running good too. Something worth looking into????? ?
