Well got the oil changed .

Now having cooling problems. In the process of taking the radator out.

Well it got a oil cooler on it that has been bypassed? I'm wanting to fix it wright and repair the oil cooler? But I have noticed on these machines that it seems that the oil cooler is always bypassed? On the two other machines anyway..that I have looked at..

The question is is it a good reason to have the cooler bypassed?

And any good info on radators would always be helpful?

I already have a push fan when I go back with it I was thinking of puting a sceen loosly in front of the fan so I could raddel it out.

Thanks Mike

I have a 1959 D6 the oil cooler has been by-passed for years and has worked under the hot Texas sun with out any prblems. This tractor is used for small jobs now. with todays oils it's different than years past.

Hey Thanks for the info.

You ever replaced a Wet clutch in you cat? Found some bass clutch disk in mine when I changed the oil. Mike

hello, don't block off the oil cooler, you have to bypass it by keeping the oil flowing.

thansk

I have not seen a discussion on this lately, but recall that apparently the oil coolers were phased out by Cat, possibly due to the quality of oil becoming better. I am of the opinion that if you are not working the machine so hard the exhaust manifolds are glowing red, probably nothing to worry about, just make sure the bypass is correct and won't spring a leak.

I forget the mechanics of the oil pumps on these, there is a bypass anyways I believe, and I think that was in case the oil cooler plugged up, that and the threading on the cooler line connections at the pump might be a little odd, couple of tidbits I think might be in the ballpark remembering.

I have one that is bypassed and one that is not, I'm not sure of the pressures involved but mine has some sort of rubber hose clamped on the ends of the steel lines where the cooler was connected, and is now a loop, I can't say I'll trust that hose either, think I'll change it to something stronger for "peace of mind".

Seems these coolers rust out, they are steel, made by Modine Manufacturing for Cat, once in awhile you'll see a N.O.S. one up for sale, but sometimes part numbers seem hard to identify, thought I found a replacement for mine, looked like the correct oil cooler, but could not match the part numbers. I'd prefer to have the cooler on mine, but would not lose any sleep over it, especially since this tractor will never see any heavy pushing for extended hours at a time, there are some varying opinions on these coolers and if they are really necessary.
