Anti freeze in oil-- HELP

I just purchased a 1981 Cat 953. Suposedly rebuilt engine and trans. After about 3 hours of work the low oil pressure warning sounded. I checked the dipstick and it was milky. When I removed the oil plug I got almost straight green. The guy I bought it from is several hundred miles away, but he assured me that it had a total rebuild and the head was not warped. His thought was that the head bolts might not have gotten torqued enough or they backed out some??? The Cat dealer says maybe oil cooler or water pump. Any other ideas? I may be sleeping in the cab.

Thanks.. one more thing... in reply to sminnick, 04-24-2006 11:22:49
Thanks. Still hoping is not the head gasket. I need to add that the engine was running smooth with no missing when the oil pressure dropped. One mechanic said that if it was the head gasket the engine would have sounded bad and lost power. Is there a way to check the oil cooler? Bob... is there a seal that could be bad between the water pump and the engine that could allow water in, even in the 953?

Water pump will only leak externally. If there is no oil in the rad take the valve cover and oil pan off. Fill and pressurize the cooling system and watch for a leak.

My vote goes for the head gasket...unless the seller is a fat liar. Otherwise stopleak, hear we come!

Oil cooler is a possability, not water pump if it's a 953. That's a 3204 engine with a belt driven pump. If it's the cooler there should be some oil in the top of the rad too. If the top of the rad is clean take off the valve cover and check the frost plugs in the top of the head. If you blew a head gasket enough to dump that much AF into the pan you would have stopped it long ago.
