Hello all, Does anyone have an idea why my JCB 1991 214 Backhoe (2 wheel Dr)Won't Start. It Spins - But Won't Run. Gotten harder to start everyday, then this problem, It just spins till the Battery dies down. Couldn't get it to start at all last weeek so, the JCB dealer sold me a new fuel tank lift pump to fix the problem. My injector has a Emergency cut off that is working properly he said ( the plunger goes in when you turn the switch ) so the JCB dealer said: gotta be the lift pump, not lifting fuel well enough. $100 bucks later and one hard start-it fired up. Used it all day, it ran great. Serviced it Sat. used it Sunday, no problems. Then Wed. evening it was hard to start again to the dead battery edge. After 10 min. it finaly started, then it shuts off after 35 min of fine running & will not fire up at all. Great tractor besides this but it's getting harder to depend upon this thing.

Thanks for the advice . I Checked The Emergency Shut Off Again & Turns Out It Was Failing. All Vents Were Fine & The Fuel Return Lines Were Open As Well. Put In A 1100 CC Amp Battery Too Just So It Would Spin Like A Top. Note To All It Really Pays To Recheck What Was Working Earlier Because My Next Step If I Did Not Fix The Problem Was Very Expensive : The Dreaded Fuel Injector Overhaul.

Oh yeah, also check to see that the fuel tank vent is not plugged up. If the tank's vent is not open, the tank can develop a vacuum as the fuel is consumed that will eventually keep the fuel from flowing. It commonly causes the tractor to run for awhile (5-15 minutes) and then it conks out as the suction builds. Let it sit for awhile, air slowly seeps back in and it will start again. It might not be the problem, but it's easy to check for. Crack the fuel cap open when it wont start and see if there is a suction present. If not leave it off after it starts (if you can start it) and see if the machine keeps running.
