I just purchased a AC HD-4 dozer and finally got to try it out for a couple of hours today. My question is do I have to hold the shuttle (forward and reverse) lever in place all the time or should it stay in forward. If so , how do I correct this problem. Also the dozer seems to want to drift off to the left on a long straight stretch, like my farm lane. I have to keep pulling on the right clutch to keep it going straight. How do I correct this problem ?

you have 2 problems-- 1st is steering clutch is sliping--2nd your clutch is either out of adjustment or linkage is worn,--steering clutch could be out of adjustment--have oil leaking onto lining of oppisite side of direction it is pulling- I still contend a shop manual is well worth the daylight-

The shuttle shift lever is supposed to stay in the position that you release it in. Yours sounds like it is doing what it is supposed to. The issue of the dozer pulling to one side sounds like a minor adjustment to the clutch or brake linkage. I used to operate an HD4 and I loved that machine. It was years ahead of it's time and have lots of power.

Tom, thanks for the comments,, I was beginning to wonder if anyone had ever heard of this machine. I sure would appreciate any or all HD-4 owners getting in contact with me,, I know I am just beginning to learn the quirks of this machine and will have many questions in the future.
