I am working on my cat undercarriage, a D69U. As usual every bolt I take out is twisting off whether I heat it or not. The bolts that hold the roller guards on apparently screw into a long flat with tapped holes. That flat looks like it lays inside the track frame.

Question is:

Is that flat replaceable as one long piece or has it been welded in?

They are in one or two pieces Bob but try what shoe said. You don't always have to blow the entire bolt out with the torch, just cool it with cold water and it may shrink enough to come loose. If you cut all the way to the edge with acetalene give a blast of oxygen near the edge and it will leave the threads clean.

Bob, the best way to get the bolts out after they are twisted off is to drill them all the way through and blow them out with a torch very carefully. I,ve done a hundred of them this way and very seldom lost the threads in the hole. It's a time consuming job but about the only way to get them out. When you install the new bolts be sure you use anti sieze on them and spot weld the heads of the bolts. Good luck.
