Injector pump leak

How common would it be for the back side cover of a Bosch inline pump to leak engine oil? Second question, Does the engine oil get in though the drive gear area. I see the drain line but no feed.

What youre saying makes sence, If I can get things clean enough would I be able to pull off the cover and regasket it

Let us be a little more specific. What model Bosch pump and what engine. They normally drain throught the gears and are fed from the line. Old ones did't have the line and you filled them manually. I will look at our John Deere tonight and see which side the plate is on front or back. The plate can leak.
