I have a chance to buy a D2 Cat but do not now what to offer. It is a 1950 model with blade. The starting motor does not run but main engine is ok. The rest of the tractor looks fairly decent. The under cairage is about 60%. There are no others in my area to compare. Thanks

I am looking for what I have with a serial number PL-1223. It is a Caterpiller with some marking that lets me think it is about 1928 vintage. I don't know if it is a D2 or not.

HELP..... ...DI

you may want to go over to ACMOC.org with the serial numbers.it's a antique caterpillar site.ask there.you also need to know series.is it J or U series?Jseries is older and a bit different than U.it all depends on condition & how much you want it.

i gave $1300.oo for mine(D2 5J)but will have to completely go through undercarrige & finals on it.it is in exploded view now(apart).really gave a bit too much for it.needs lots of work...you really need to know condition of undercarrige for a good value.measure hight of rails(links.distance from inside of track plate to top of link.new is 3".100% worn is 2 3/4" if i remember correctly).does it run??probably anywhere from $1000. to $6000.depending on condition.of course a GOOD example is worth more(ready to use & or restored)...good luck...wrenchman...

I sold my D2/5U in Mid-Michigan about a year ad 1/2 ago for $3000. It had a blade, electric start pony and was in pretty good shape. I had to fix the pony when I got it and put almost $800 into the fix. I guessing with a fixable pony $1500-$2000. I have a more handy machine now but miss that growl when the diesel fired up on that D2!!!
