I have been contemplating getting an older TLB recently for hobby use and for a little supplementary retirement income. During my frequent trips to visit my grandchildren I have noticed a JD TLB sitting in a yard along the highway. I have seen it sitting there for a couple of years and there is no indiction that it has ever moved. I tend to be partial to the Case 580 series machines but I would consider the JD if they have a good reputation and I can get it at a good price. I did stop in during my last trip but no one was home and I didn't want to snoop around. I did notice that it was a 510 and that it appears in mint condition. It seems to have been carefully parked with most of the rams fully retracted where possible. It is located on coastal waterfront property where the atmosphere is somewhat corrosive from the moist salty air. My question is, are there any specific weaknesses to these machines what are important areas to check if I get a chance to negotiate purchasing this machine? Are they about the same value and performance as a Case 580 machine? I would be installing a thumb on the hoe so that I can use it for handling placing rocks in landscaping.
Thanks for any thoughts. Don

Thanks guys. So it seems as if the 510 was an ok machine, just larger and clumsier than the Case 580's. Of course if I did get it at a very good price it might mean that I could play with bigger boulders. LOL

510 models also came in B and C models.
The original 510 always seemed so big and clumsy to me, as a full- time contractor would use.
Later models seemed more useful to me.
B model began at S.N.700000
C model began at S.N.733237
