HI Everyone. I am going to look at a IH 500 crawler. Guy says it won"t move because it needs a seal in torque converter.Any suggestions of what I need to look for the make sure that is what the problem is? I would appreciate any advice that you would like to share. Also, if that is the case, what kind of a job am I looking at. thanks Ron

When my torque converter seal went out, trans. fluid quickly ran out when I put the machine into motion. To replace the seal, the engine must be removed. I had to replace the torque converter also, it was groved where the seal rides. Not to expensive of a repair but very time consuming.

Kurt, could you give me an estimate of what it cost you to fix yours. Also, did you get parts through a dealer or another source. I bought the crawler today, so any help and information would be helpful. Thanks, Ron

Hi Ron, The only real cost would be the price of the torque converter seal and hy-trans fluid for the transmission. If your torque converter is bad, a trans. shop can have it rebuilt. My converter was junk so the trans. shop found a replacement for about $200.00. The pump can also be removed and cleaned at this time also. Before you pull it all apart, make sure the fluid level is full. It should still move the machine, however trans. fluid will run out from the bad seal, just to be sure of the problem. They can be a little sluggish for the first foot or two until the converter locks up and you get all the engine power to the transmission. They are great little machines when you get them going. My email is open if you'd like more info. without wasting YT board space. Good luck.....Kurt

Kurt, Thanks for the feed back. I thought maybe the engine would have to be removed so I will take that in consideration. Maybe a good time to do some engine work,if needed, at the same time. Thanks, Ron

Hi Ron,
I'm looking at an International track loader to buy myself. I'm worried about finding parts for it though. If you don't mind let me know if you know of a parts source. That's going to determine whether or not I purchase this one. It seems to be in great shape but I know eventually it will break down. Thanks for the help.
