I have a 450C that will run back and forth, spin circles and everything until you touch the blade to the ground and then nothing. The dozer just stops! I'm not talking about pushing any dirt, with the blade down it stops before it even grabs any dirt.
I had a guy come by that seemed to know the machine and he said the trans hose was colapsed.
Is this right and where is this hose?

That is the adjustment for the HLR transmission...Put the guage in the test port like I said before..Turn the adjustment clockwise slowly till the pressure starts to drop off..Try the speed of shift , 2nd gear , 1200 rpm , high to reverse or reverse to high without touching the clutch pedal. This transmission is supposed to be shifted without touching the clutch pedal at all.. If it's still aggressive , turn it clockwise 1/4 turn at a time till it smooths out. It should just pull you out of the seat back from high to reverse..Don't make it too sluggish , that will cause heat from slippage..When it's adjusted right , you should be able to touch the clutch pedal [ 1/2 to 3/4 inch ] and the pressure should go up slightly..gearshift in neutral [ between 3rd and 4th gear] , HLR lever in gear..I've seen these so aggressive that it tore the ring and pinion out of the machine.....

I pulled the floor boards and pulled the rubber plug out so I could see the clutch. I had someone I trust operate the machine while I watched and I noticed that the clutch was not slipping, but I did notice that when I put the slightest presure on the clutch pedals, the tracks went limp.
I adjusted the 1/2 inch not on the rod and the thing pulls like new.
What is this adjustment for, and how do you make the correct adjustment?
I did all this before I saw Roy's post.

Did he put a guage in the transmission????Or did he do this by osmosis ???? Lets see , how would Johnny Carson do this..Something about Funk and Wagnals front porch and a mayonaise jar....
Seriously , Put a 200 lb. guage into the pressure tap in the transmission..This tap is under the "drum bung" between the steering levers. There is an 1/8 pipe plug down in there. Use a greased 3/16" allen wrench to hold onto the plug while you fish it out..I use a grease gun flex hose with 1/8 pipe threads, adapt your guage to it, sometimes I add a 2 or 3 inch 1/8th pipe nipple to the hose so I can screw the nipple into the pressure tap without the flats of the hose hitting the sides of the opening..Now climb up into that operators seat and check the following...
Start the machine up , just about 1200 rpms.Read the guage...It should read approx. 185 lbs.. If it reads pressure close to the 185 , put it in gear and read the guage when the tracks stop.. If the pressure drops off when the tracks stop and then goes back up after you raise the blade, I would consider replacing the engine clutch..There are so many different places to look for slipping problems..The first in my book is the above test..Let us know what you find..I'm sure between myself and many others on this forum , we can figure out your problemmmmm Good luck....
