(reposted from the Ford forum on this site)

I'm hoping that someone can help me with this one. A few weeks ago my uncle in Ontario (Canada) drove past what he says is a chicken farm, and spotted what seemed even to him, a larger than a standard size backhoe, so he turned around to get a closer look. It was a Ford 775, which is considerably larger than any Ford backhoe I've ever seen!

However, it seems to be a rare beast indeed as I have never managed to find anything about it, and no sales brochures or spec sheets seem to be around anywhere either.

Can anyone tell me any operating specs of this machine or anything at all about this particular model?

Thanks

775 was prototype. never sold in North America. Should be a 4x4 with equal size wheels. Ran one when Ford New Holland was deciding if they were going to sell them in the US. They decided not too. This was about the time of the Case-NH merger. Very nice backhoe. Ended up being sold in the US by Fiat-Allis for a time.

Thank you dsmoker! in reply to dsmoker, 06-06-2006 13:47:48

I was wondering if this backhoe was not popular for some reason since I couldn't find anything on it when I was hunting for info on Google, but now you really have my curiosity peaked!

As you can see, it does have 4 equal sized wheels, similar to the B-E Dynahoe-series of backhoes built in the 1970's. This machine is located in Canada, not sure if that makes much of a difference!

Thanks again for this interesting piece of information!

Are you sure it didn't say 755 ??? Ford started that series backhoe many years ago with the 5500-6500 , 5550, then 750 , then 755...They were a moose!!!!Heavy , poor mudders , real good doing roadside sewer and water main work..I had the misfortune of owning a 5500 many years ago..I broke more sidewalks and ruined many a yard doing sewer repairs and waterline installs in residential areas...

Thanks for the replies so far. I am sure this model is indeed a 775, I have a sales brochure already for the 755.

This is the very machine in question! Unfortunately there is nothing next to it for scaling purposes but it was a fair sight taller than the 4x4 truck my uncle owns. Its size reminds me of the large backhoes we had here in the UK back in the 1960's and 70's like the JCB 4/4c/4D and whit Hymac/Whitlock 570 machines; built for civil engineering and large sites. They vanished when more sites became the typical urban ones which required smaller machines. Obviosuly Canada doesnt have such a problem!
