I would like to know if anyone has had any luck straightening out a bent up front axle on an equipment trailer. It looks to be 2" pipe.
Thanks, Jim in Oregon

Cut a crosstie to the inside length of the axle. If it's bent up in the middle, chain it there and put a jack on top of the crosstie, under each end of the axle. If the axle is bent down in the middle, chain each end of the axle to the tie, then put the jack on top of tie, under axle, and push up. Not an exact science, but, hey, poor folks got poor ways!

Tim, I don't understand if I'm supposed to put the jack on top of the crosstie, and then a chain over the jack and then jack it down. Or put a crosstie on the deck and jack it down that way??
I think the rain gets to my brain sometimes!
Thanks,
Jim

Hey, thanks Tim. Whatever it takes not to have to go buy a new one!

I had the axle bend on a travel trailer when the moving company that I used strapped the trailer down too tight. I didn"t discover it until I went on a trip and the tires quickly started to wear on one side. I removed the axle and took it to a machine shop for straightening. They must have got it right as the tires were good after that. Another time I bent an axle on a utility trailer because of overload and rough roads. I was in a hurry on a long trip and a garage straightened it while on the trailer. They put it up on the hoist and used a tool made for doing wheel alignments on Ford twin I-beam front axles Apparently those axles were aligned by bending the axle. The garage weld some extra material on the bottom of my axle to strenthen it for the rest of the trip. Depending on how your axle is mounted and how badly your axle is bent it may be possible to rotate the axle 180 deg. and put the crown up and have it work fine.
