I was using my JD 450 this morning. It cranked right up about 10:30 a.m. At noon I stopped for lunch and shut it down. At 12:30 p.m. I got back on it and it wouldn't even turn over. Completely dead. When I turn the switch on, the amp meter needle does not move. When things are working correctly, the needle moves slightly toward discharge. I have 12 volts at the battery and I have 12 volts at the starter (put tester to frame and positive wire on starter). I replaced the ignition switch. I assume I have a short in a wire to or from the switch. Any of your ideas will be appreciated.

I tracked down the problem today. It turned out to be a bad circuit breaker between the switch and the amp meter. Thanks for your ideas.

The 450s some have a starter relay on the right panle ,have had the same type problem with ants getting into them . Had to remove cover ,then remove ants . You can find this relay by fellowing the wireing off start switch .Also had problems with the solenoid if is NIP. for some reason they go bad or need to be ajusted .

sometimes a starter can get a dead spot in it if you can somehow turn it over a little bit than try it also try a jumper wire from the battery to the selinoid and see what happens good luck

Check your starter solenoid.

I would check/replace the coil and/or wires to
the coil. The ammeter could also be a problem,
you can just bypass to check that.
