How to lift arms with no hydraulics?

I've got a Case 350 Track loader that I am rebuilding the engine on. I have the engine out, and the bucket off, and I would like raise the arms. When I jack up the arms, the whole machine raises. Opening the spool doesn't do anything, and I disconnected the lines from the lift cylinders as well. The only thing I can think of is a one way valve in the cylinders. Is that possible? My last resort is to just disconnect the cylinders, but that will take a little work, cause the pins are pretty well stuck. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jon

some rams on boom trucks have hydraulic locks so ram cant move without pressure, maby this is same? safety factor so if a hose blows, boom will not fall

Make sure you jack up the boom evenly...put jack in the centre to get even lift pressure.Small things like that sometimes help....

Try putting the hydraulic actuator lever into the float position (all the way forward until it clicks into its detent). That should free it up so it will go up...hopefully!

Oops, just realized you said that the hoses are off. Hmm, not sure about that one. Could it be just a little stiction holding them? Maybe try rigging up an adapter on the high pressure side so you can pump some compressed air in to help them along? Obviously want to be real safe about lifting it up without having the hydraulics connected; good luck.

Has the rams got hose burst check valves fitted, if so connect to an external hydraulic system like a tractors rear outlets, lift the rams and block them for safty.
