I hope someone out there can help me with a small
problem i'm have with a 1974 450 case. The unit has been working fine untill lately. When I shift from low to high the unit will run along fine and then stop. The right track is justlike it locked down. You can then shift back to low and all works will. When the unit locks it will stall the converter and driveshaft. You can still use the left stick to turn the unit but when you use the right stick to turn it will lock down. All help would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks Chris

Mr. George I hope you answer back. I got the cover off today
an found that enther one of the rings are broken. I'm going to replace them while i'm into it now. Can they be wore enough that it will cause this problem? Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks C. Bills

Is this something I can repair without to much trouble? Is this located at the rear of the housing behind one of the four bolt on caps? Thanks for your help with this problem.

They won't be O rings , they will be oil control
ring ( muck like a piston ring but with hooked ends. If you get in trouble , send me an email with a
phone # .

bill,

Sounds like a broken oil control ring on

the end of the clutch shaft , there are 2 rings

there and it is the outer one that separates

the oil pressure from the other clutch . If the

inner one breaks it drops the clutch pressure ,

but doesn't engage both clutches at the same

time .
