Can anyone tell me if the International 500 loader is a good investment or not? I'm looking at one to buy for $5,000 in seeminly good shape. The worry I have is getting parts for it if it breaks down!

I have an old IH tracked loader and it has been very reliable, but I made sure it was in good shape before I got it. There are used and some new parts available for old IH machines, including the 500. But you may have to shop around for awhile and maybe improvise at times depending on what you need. One thing some of the 500's have is the Neuss(?) German diesel motor which I have heard are hard to find parts for (at a reasonable price), especially the injector pump. If you want a crawler you can just walk into a dealer and get any parts you need on demand at any time (regardless of the price) get a newer Deere or Case 450 or maybe a Cat 931. Of course the up front price will roughly triple the $5K for the 500. If you go IH, check out the RedPower site referenced below, good luck.
