Got the 188 engine tore down in my Case 350 trackloader. Looks like the #2 rod spun a bearing. It doesn't look too bad, but I want to know the thoughts on turning the crankshafts on these 188's. I have read a few posts about crankshafts breaking after they have been turned. Is this valid? How do I make sure mine is turned down right?

Thanks,

Jon

First of all this is a diesel crank?, correct? Anytime a diesel spins a bearings make sure you have that journal Rockwell tested. Also see if the crank will take grinding down to a size that bearings are available. Also remember diesel cranks are not hardned very deep. Can it be welded? Yes it can, but get someone that welds Diesel cranks. The procedure is a little different than welding gas cranks. More questions send me a reply. J.

the only cranks I have seen that broke, were not magna fluxed, xrayed or were welded. I have had cranks turned as much as .50 with no problem.
