What weight of oil should I put in the manual transmission of a Cat D7 17A? The book seems to say either 30 weight or 90 weight. I was thinking of putting in either 50 wt or 90 wt. I know the engine gets 30 wt, the wet clutch gets 30 wt, the steering boosters get 30 wt and the final drives get 90 wt. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you

Caterpillar called for SAE 30wt (what was at the time series 3). Above +32°F and +32°F to +10°F SAE 30wt as well. +10° F to -10° F SAE 10W, -10° F and lower SAE 10W. Oil change period is 1000 hours. Capacity 11 Gal. Filter Change Period 250 hours (note**).

** Tractors effective with 17A11330 and Earlier models equipped with filters.

I would use 85-140 since it has better rust perventive. 30w is to light for those old direct drive tranneys. The old service manuel said 90.

HI If you have 1 oil filter on left side transmission you need oil 30 or 15/40 same of motor and wet cluch but if you dont have oil filter on transmission you need 80/90w same of final drive.
