Case g188D cylinder sealing

I'm rebuilding a Case G188d, and I have discovered that there is a groove in the seal area where the cylinder goes. The groove was probably left when water got down in there with the old oring. There is only one groove on each cylinder, so I guess that no water got by the first oring, and the second ring continued to seal. However, the groove on number one is pretty deep, and I am wondering what the proper repair is?

thank you

J,

Sometimes those lower bores do erode and if they

are serious you can bore and sleeve that area.

I make my own repair sleeves but there is a

fellow in S D that makes them .

Basically to repair them you need a boring

bar that you can preset the tool as there is

not enough room to use a setup mic inside the

block and the tool won't pass thru the top

bore. Make the repair sleeve for 1.5 to 2

thousandths press fit , make a driver to

install the sleeve. when it is installed you

will have to custom make a tool for the boring

bar to cut the entry chamfer ( much wider

tool than a boring tool).

Thanks for the reply.

That sounds expensive, as I'll be paying someone to do the work. How can I tell if it is bad enough? There aren't any specs in the manual for honing that area of the block. You can barely feel a groove on all the cylinders but one, and that one has a more pronounced groove.

I've read of guys filling those erosion grooves and pits in the sealing area with JB Weld. Fill in the grooves and sand or hone it smooth, works good because there is no high stresses in that area, just 12 to 14 psi coolant pressure. So unless you can find a machine shop set up to install repair sleeves it would be worth a try and much cheaper.
