I have a problem with a heavy truck, a 9300 International. The speedometer is acting up. I have been searching the web for a forum on heavy trucks like this one for equipment. So far no luck finding one, does any one know of one?
Thanks.

I do some truck repair where I work. On our 4700 Lo-Pro there were some issues with engine performance..I've found that if you're doing your own repairs , It's best to buy a Tech manual..My only problem with this is , I don't have the necessary test equipment. [ other than ohmmeters, etc]..Your problem sounds like a voltage spike of some kind...Getting back to our 4700 , When we got the truck back from dealer , it was out of fuel , ran simillarily poor , and only cost us $2400.00..... .Such a deal....

I had a 9375 that the speedometer was electronic.
When it quit, I found a bad connection on the right side of the transmission, at the electronic pickup to truck wiring harness, connector.

To further explain the problem. The speedo is electronic. Speedo works fine up to 45 mph, then it will go to 85 mph for a while. It then will fall back to below 0, check engine light will light. Speedo will then go back to 45mph for a second and start the cycle over. This is while the truck is doing any thing over 45 mph. At the same time the cruise will shut off. Since the speed sensor tells the ECM the road signal, the ECM then sends a signal to the cruise control and to the speedo cluster, I thought the speed sensor was the fault , since this is the only common item with the two. I installed a new one and checked the exciter ring for looseness, along with checking the pin connector. After this the problem remains. I need a wiring diagram or the pin number for the VSS at the ECM so I can check the wire from the VSS to the ECM. I wish it was as easy as a cable driven speedo. Thanks.

Well dependes if it is a cable driven unit or and electronic one . If it is a cable driven one then i would be checking the drive cable for kinks or running dry . We use to lube the OLD cables every so often with white litium grease . If it and electronic one check the nut on the out put yoke as the one on a 9400 was getting loose and was causing the speedo to act up. Put the 1 inch drive to her and put the wizzy on it solved the problem .

What"s it doing? If it is bouncing the needle when you are going down the road, I"d bet it"s getting ready to lock up. Had the same problem in my Pete. It finally locked up, and took out the cable with it.

I know a new speedo head is expensive, but that is probably what I would recommend, if the above mentioned problem is what it is. If you opt for that, check your cable, too. They usually don"t give any trouble - they either work or they don"t. I have seen many people put in used heads, but they usually didn"t last more than a month or so. Bad as I hate to say it, the best bet is probably new.

Hope this helps, and good luck,
