I am replacing the front crankshaft seal in a 188 diesel and I noticed a grove is worn into the crank pulley. Is this groove supposed to be there? I didn't think it was and I was going to have a machine shop weld it up and turn it back down smooth.

Fred.

Look in the yellow pages under bearings. most bearing adn seal dealers have what is know as a speedi sleeve it installs over the crank and it is like new again. I dont knwo about case, cat sell them for all their tractors. a lot cheaper than welding and not as likely to cause to crank to break

Thanks for the reply Bob. This is for the front seal and it is the pulley (damper) that has the groove in it.

A spedi sleeve will also work there

Yep, that's what my machine shop is going to use.

Thanks for your help.

Fred
