JCB 1400B wont go into reverse

My JCB 1400B wont go into reverse. It moves forward just fine but does nothing when I place the shifter to reverse....it also is frying the 5 amp forward/reversesolenoid dump relay fuse quite often and I dont see any stripped wires that might be shorting it out, etc.

Is it time to replace the transmission solenoid or is there some hidden fuse somewhere that needs to be replaced?

Also the machine doesnt start when I turn the key and I just replaced the ignition switch, I can hotwire it by zapping the starter solenoid with some jumper cables though....do I need a new starter solenoid or is there some hidden fuse somewhere that needs to be replaced?

Thanks for any advice

The switch should last much longer than that, nevertheless it does control the functions that are a problem, the reverse and starting,it not easy to say what else may be wrong, make sure all plugs are together tightly, push all the relays fully home, check all the fuses and make sure they are making contact, not much else I can say,you could check the solenoid plugs for power and ground.

There is no hidden fuse,it is unlikely your problem is any more than the forward reverse switch needs replacing,as I remember the power feed for the forward/reverse switch came from the fuse box through the clutch disconnect switch then on to the forward/reverse switch, when you select a direction power is sent to one of the two selonoids on top of the shuttle gearbox, when the solenoid is energized it opens a valve to direct oil under pressure to engage the clutch pack for that direction, when you press the clutch disconnect the power circuit is broken, the seloenoid valve closes and the machine stops, each of the solenoids plugs must have their own ground and power when selected,it is common for the F/R switch to fail,it also controls the neutral start.

Thanks for the respons AJ. I replaced the f/r switch a year or so ago, do you think its common for a brand new one to wear out so quickly?
