188 Diesel - Break in Oil

I posted this on the Case board, but thought I would post it here as well. Hoping to get some responses by this evening, so I can run the tractor tonight.

Just got my case 188 Diesel rebuilt and running. Full rebuild (with new sleeves, pistons, & rings) I filled it up with Rotella 15w-40 and ran it for about 30 minutes. I have been reading a bit about break in, and have noticed over on the Deere board, they mention a special break-in oil to use. Should I use something like that for the first 50-100 hours or so? What other oil would be recommended for breakin? Is it too late, since I have ran it for about 30 minutes?

Like RAB said the best thing to do with an engine using chrome rings is get a 75 % load on it and watch the temperature and oil pressure. If this was an inframe after about 2 hours dump the oil and filter and rechange everything. When I worked for the Oliver dealer we also used a special break in oil. I had that come up a year ago and I called the refinery as they have a manufacturing site for some other related products and they told me they have discontinued the break in oil. J.

The answer to your question, of being too late, is no.
It will need some fairly hard work to bed in the new rings. Just treat it like the original owner"s manual said to do, to run it in, or, preferably, follow the kit supplier"s recommendations. New everything in the Liner /piston/ring group is easier to bed in than running in new rings on an old liner, as the new liners should be cross-hatched honed and wear in the rings while smoothing out themselves.
